Silizium

July 31st, 2008 by colorcubic

With the constant influx of projects, having a resource of listening pleasures is absolutely conducive to creativity for us. With that said, we’ve recently been listening to a lot of Apparat, and I must say, on a personal level, this has helped me concentrate soooooo much. Especially this EP titled: “Silizium.”

One particular track that really stood out to us was the BUS remix of Apparat’s title track “Silizium.” This track really puts things into perspective as far as listening pleasures evoking nostalgic, dream like design pieces. This track starts off with a very minimal, but almost melancholy melody that is pretty consistent throughout the track; followed by a beat that sounds like it was supposed to be an homage to classic dub cuts. I’m sure you’ll have a better idea of what I’m talking about if you just listen.

Enjoy :D

Enchanted Vineyard

July 27th, 2008 by colorcubic

Christy and I decided to take a day off today (for once) and head on over to the Enchanted Forest. Our good friend Liz was kind enough to join us on our “enchanted adventure.” For me it was nothing more than a harsh awakening from a beautiful, nostalgic, dreamlike, childhood memory. Definitely wasn’t like I remembered, but it was fun to experience it with Christy and Liz, whom, I might add, have never been to the Enchanted Forest before. If you’re not originally from Portland, then you probably have no idea what I’m talking about, but if you happen to come through Portland, Oregon, definitely make a stop through the Enchanted Forest. At least once, just to experience it. I promise, you’ll never forget it.

Anyway, on the way back to Portland, from Enchanted Forest, we made a quick stop by a nearby vineyard and had a little photo shoot. I’m really happy with the way these shots turned out, so hopefully we’ll end up using them in one of our experimental print projects. The top one is probably my favorite out of the lot, and just so happens to feature Christy fiddling around with her Diana F+. I can’t wait to see how the photos turn out that Christy got on our adventure while using the Diana. We’ll be sure to post them when we get them developed.

Enjoy.

Deep Inside with Mouse on Mars

Mr. Velcro Fastener “Deep: Inside? vol. two compilation cover

I apologize for not posting anything recently. We’ve been busy wrapping several projects that keeping up on our posts just didn’t quite fall into the “high priority” category. That being said, we have had the pleasure of working diligently whilst our ears have been massaged by the Velcro Fastener “deep : inside” compilation. It’s amazing how hard it is to find a decent compilation that is conducive to creativity, especially nowadays, where everyone is so ADD. It seems that people are more interested in releasing a lot of mediocre records, instead of releasing a few REALLY GOOD ones. Anyway, it’s hard to pinpoint one particular artist from this compilation that really stands out. I mean, just look at what you have to choose from:

• Authecre

• Fujiya & Miyagi

• Mr. Velcro Fastener

• Mouse On Mars

and many others. This whole compilation is brilliant from start to finish. Fortunately, Mouse On Mars (above all else) really seems to stick with me personally when I’m plugging away. Their music just seems so appropriate that I had to post their track, “Pinwheel Herman.” It’s so quirky, and yet I can relate so easily. Well, I hope you enjoy these listening pleasures. In the interim, we’ll be sure to prep our finished works and post them here for preview if anyone is interested.

Happy listening ;)

Solid Gold Bomb brand identity

July 6th, 2008 by colorcubic

So we just finished branding a new client of ours under the name Solid Gold Bomb. We thought it would be neat to preview the conceptual sketches along with the finished piece. Although Adobe Illustrator is a great tool to use, when it comes to branding, Christy and I tend to embrace a more traditional approach by utilizing a pencil, graph paper, compass, protractor, and a lot of erasing. This way we’re not limited to our knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, only our imagination. Besides, sometimes we just have an idea, and we need to get it out before we lose it.

Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Peace :D

PDX HDR

July 6th, 2008 by colorcubic

Took this shot about a week ago atop a smart park in downtown PDX. Finally got some time to work with it to produce an HDR effect. We took a lot more, unfortunately we haven’t had the time to work with the rest of them. As soon as we do though, we’ll be sure to post the results.

Enjoy :)
