Electrobotany

March 19th, 2009 by colorcubic

This is a quick update to let everyone know we’re still here, just really busy with projects… If you happen to follow any of our work on the behance network, you’ve probably already seen this piece. That being said, we thought we would give a little more insight into what inspired us to create this. Our love for electronic music, horticulture, and old, nostalgic experiences tends to drive our creative direction in most of our work, and this piece was certainly no exception, giving way for the title: Electrobotany.

We used the displace filter, along with some custom actions & textures we’ve created using layers of photoshop filters to create the background, and added accents to the headphones. It was kind of a lengthy process, but we finally reached a point where we were happy.

Anyway, we hope you enjoy this piece. :)

2009: Our Time to Shine

December 31st, 2008 by colorcubic

2009 11 X 17 print

ATTTENTION:

In regards to anyone using this image online, to celebrate the New Year 2009:

Recently, we’ve been bombarded with a plethora of requests, asking us for permission to use our 2009 print design for web, print, and packaging usage. As flattering as this is, unfortunately we cannot accommodate all of these requests.

Reason being is that we are launching our own, proprietary online shop in the next few days, and the 2009 print will be sold exclusively (and in limited numbers) through our shop.

So, if you’re going to use this image, it must only be used online, you must link back to our site, you must give credit to us, and it may only be used none-commercially. Also, you may not associate this image with any type of hate, discriminatory, defamatory, lewd or sexually explicit content, or anything that may potentially degrade Colorcubic’s brand image. Please respect our work, our efforts, and our wishes, as this is what we do for a living.

Also, please contact us of where and how you plan to use this image online.

You can reach us at: admin@colorcubic.com

Thank you very much, and we hope all of you have a great New Year!

Sky Guide Service logo

December 20th, 2008 by colorcubic

Well, things really seem to be moving a long quite nicely. We just submitted two logo concepts to a new client of ours, DBA: Sky’s Guide Service. Sky’s Guide Service is a premier fishing experience in the Pacific Northwest, and they decided to approach us for a brand redesign to enhance their brand equity. I’m not going to lie, this was actually a pretty challenging project to take on initially, as the fishing industry is pretty cutthroat, but the Sky’s Guide team are a great group of people, and they certainly eliminated any negative preconceived notions of what a fishing experience might entail.

After a significant amount of research, we decided it was more appropriate to feature the primary tool used for fishing, and not the conventional fish icon. For the type, we decided to run with Glypha, a really nice slab serif that seemed to fit perfectly with this piece.

Also, if you follow our brand work, you’ll notice that we really strive to steer away from clutter. Our first objective to any brand project is to minimize the clutter, and then add clever / iconic imagery, if applicable.

This piece certainly proved to be one of those cases, and, as it turns out, Sky’s Guide Service has approved this concept, and we’re now moving onto incorporating the new brand identity into all of their collateral pieces.

We’ll be sure to post any accompanying pieces associated with this project in the coming weeks.

Hope you enjoy! :D

Gracefully Refined

December 10th, 2008 by colorcubic

This is an 11.5 X 17.5 promotional print we finished a few weeks back for our client, Flowerbud. The “G” at the top we made from scratch, and the accompanying type is a modified Caslon pro. The bouquet of flowers featured are Calla Lilies, shot with a Canon 40D, using a 28-135mm zoom lens. The texture was made primarily in photoshop, with a few illustrator elements. If you’re interested to purchase, you can check their site to find when they plan to make this print available.

Peace, :P ¥

Solid Gold Bomb brand identity

July 6th, 2008 by colorcubic

So we just finished branding a new client of ours under the name Solid Gold Bomb. We thought it would be neat to preview the conceptual sketches along with the finished piece. Although Adobe Illustrator is a great tool to use, when it comes to branding, Christy and I tend to embrace a more traditional approach by utilizing a pencil, graph paper, compass, protractor, and a lot of erasing. This way we’re not limited to our knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, only our imagination. Besides, sometimes we just have an idea, and we need to get it out before we lose it.

Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Peace :D

Design for baby apparel

April 16th, 2008 by colorcubic

These days, we’re busy working on a lot of baby-related design projects and we just completed splash page designs for Blank Apparel Baby and RockMyBaby, two Australian-based baby apparel sites being launched in the next couple months. We were given carte blanche to design the brands and here are the results:

RMB Splash
RockMyBaby is a rock-centric baby apparel site. We designed a “rock” wordmark with a cute skull being swaddled by the R’s decender as well as a cool VIP pass for the splash page.

A soft and fun approach was taken when designing the Blank Apparel Baby logo, integrating a rainbow, cloud, and subtle smiley face. I don’t know about you, but this whole scene makes us feel like warm laundry and fabric softener. :)

Rogue Samurai Farm brand identity v 2.0

April 15th, 2008 by colorcubic

Rogue Samurai Farm™ v 2.0

Hello everyone, sorry for not writing on here for a while. We’re really under the gun to get a lot finished in a short amount of time, all while keeping up on here. So anyway, if you remember several posts back, we featured some brand identity work that was currently in the works for some clients of ours. One piece in particular was for “Rogue Samurai Farm™.” Anyway, we all decided that Rogue Samurai Farm needed a change in the identity direction we were moving in. We were thinking of something along the lines of minimal meets stencil, or something that could potentially be used as a stencil. So far everyone seems to be really happy about the outcome, and so we’re now moving in the direction of implementing this design into some mock-up collateral pieces to promote RSF. Let us know what you think… or not.

Enjoy :D

Centro de ensayos no destructivos

March 25th, 2008 by colorcubic

Techint Brochure Cover

This is another design we found featured in the 1985 /86 Graphis Annual™ that we were pretty impressed with, so we thought we would share. The design was produced by Rubên Fontana, and was the cover of a brochure for a non-destructive test centre. The treatment is very minimal, but at the same time very abstract. I really love the way he used the colors and arrows to produce the cube, and how it’s almost reminiscent of a halftone effect.

Enjoy, :D

Xmas with the Walcotts

Walcott Xmas illustration

We thought someone might find this piece from our archives amusing, so we decided to share this with whomever is interested. One of our good friends commissioned us to create one of their infamous holiday greeting cards last Christmas for their insanely long list of family and friends. We decided to illustrate them, and put them in a conventional busy mall setting with a line of people waiting to see Santa. If you notice, everyone has got their ideal gift already picked out in their minds, and they’re just waiting to spill the beans. I can’t tell you how long this took, but it was quite a while. Every element was intricately illustrated, from the mall backdrop and Christmas tree, to the family and Santa in the foreground. Although it was very detail oriented, it was extremely fun to work on. We’re looking forward to taking it on next year as well.

Hope you enjoy.

Peace, ;)
